The Project

Trisoplast is often applied in a horizontal manner. For example, as a bottom seal of ducts or tank depots. But with some creativity, this handy flexible mixture has many application possibilities. Vertical application is, of course, also an option. Our work on the A9 motorway near Badhoevedorp is a good example.

Vertical wall

In recent years, the A9 motorway has been thoroughly renovated on several fronts. To make the village of Badhoevedorp, close to Amsterdam, more liveable, it was decided to reroute a section of the A9 to the west. Part of this involved building a substantial embankment with a vertical wall 13 metres high and 240 metres long. Essential requirement: the wall had to be impermeable. The embankment for the motorway was constructed with bottom ashes from the waste incineration plant, and the contaminants contained therein must not leach into the environment. Trisoplast provided the necessary sealing. An extremely minute job in which precision and cooperation were key.

Geogrids

To connect perfectly to the metre-thick wall, which is constructed with geogrid and hydraulic mixing granulate, we applied a Trisoplast wall about 10 centimetres thick using a steel mould. We applied this in stages about 30 centimetres high each time, after which the space behind it could be compacted with mixed granulate. When the first layer was completed along its entire length, another layer of geogrid was laid and we started on the next 30 centimetres. A challenging job, because in execution we were dependent on the way and pace at which the geogrid was installed.
